Continuous Professional Development Guidance Notes
What is CPD?
CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development. This is the continuous progression that helps you maintain and improve your competence. Used appropriately, CPD will provide you with increased skills that can be put into practice for the benefit of your clients. CPD is not just about attending training courses; it is something that can be carried out every day through structured reading, networking and other such activities.
Why is CPD necessary?
As a member of FBAASS you have agreed to undertake a programme of CPD to ensure that you keep your skills current. It is part of the quality assurance that gives your clients confidence in your abilities and illustrates to them the currency of your knowledge
How much CPD do I have to do?
There is no maximum number of points to be attained; however a minimum of 20 CPD points annually is required. 10 of these points must be in Business Management and 5 must be in your existing area of Technical expertise. A summary can be seen of the front of your record card.
How is CPD measured?
There are many methods of measuring CPD activity. This scheme is based on a points system. Depending upon the method of learning and the hours undertaken, points are rewarded for each CPS activity. A summary can be seen of the front of your record card.
How is CPD evidenced
The record card acts as a log of your activities over your membership year. Where possible a signature should be attained by an appropriate third party to evidence the activity. Photocopies of certificates and other similar methods of evidence will also be accepted. Please forward evidence to support your CPD activity with your record card at renewal time.
What happens of I do not attain 20 CPD points
You will not be eligible for re-registration unless 20 points have been attained.
Can CPD points be carried into the next membership year?
No points cannot be carried forward.
How do I know if an activity qualifies for CPD points
As CPD is under your control you should ensure that the activity is meaningful and for the benefit of you and your clients. Points can be gained from many different sources
